The area surrounding the Uber Arena has been shaped by the controversial Mediaspree development plan, which transformed the site of the former Schlesischer Güterbahnhof into a modern urban hub. A Brief History of the Arena

The history of the arena is closely tied to Berlin's development as a hub for events and sports. Originally planned as the Berlin National Arena, Telefónica Germany (O2) became its first naming sponsor. The foundation stone was laid in 2006, marking the beginning of the success story of today’s Uber Arena. Until 2015, the arena was known as O2 World Berlin, before Mercedes-Benz acquired the naming rights and implemented extensive renovations. These changes included redesigning the emergency stairwells and introducing new colors and signage that shaped the arena's interior and exterior appearance.

In January 2024, another name change occurred: ride-hailing service Uber acquired the naming rights, and on March 22, 2024, the arena was officially renamed the Uber Arena. The square in front of the venue also received a new name, becoming Uber Platz. This strategic move marked a new chapter in the arena’s history, reinforcing its position as one of Germany's leading event locations.
