Visit the Open Air Exhibition in Berlin: Revolution and the Fall of the Wall.
The Open Air Exhibition by the Robert Havemann Society e.V. was inaugurated on June 15th, 2016 at the former Stasi headquarters and offers insights into the key stages of the peaceful revolution in East Germany (GDR).
The individual stages are explained in detail, from the beginnings of the protests to the fall of the wall to the complete unification of Germany. The focus is on the personal stories of all those brave people who gathered their strength to overthrow the dictatorship, fought for freedom and democracy, and changed their lives. A large collection of images, historical documents, and films remind us of the transformation of East Germany and show poignant moments of the successful revolution.
The permanent exhibition is bilingual (German/English) and is also available as an audio guide, leading through the multimedia exhibition. The exhibition is located on the grounds of the Stasi Museum in Berlin Lichtenberg, which used to be the main headquarters of the GDR secret police. Around 7,000 Stasis employees worked there. The Stasi Minister Erich Mielke also had his main office there from 1962 to 1989.
The Open Air Exhibition is located right next to the Stasi Museum in Berlin. The Stasi Museum has been open again since May 2020 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with restrictions.
