Sanssouci Palace and Park
Sanssouci palace is a small but fine, unique rococo palace, situated on a fantastic vineyard terrace, surrounded by beautiful gardens and parks. No other palace is as connected to the personality of Frederick the Great as this one. Thanks to its unique location and the original preserved rooms, with all their elegant, stylish 18th century furnishings, the palace still enchants its visitors today and immerses them in the world of the "Philosopher of Sanssouci".
A palace for the summer resort, a place without worries (French: sans souci) - with this idea Friedrich II had the foundation stone laid on 14 April 1745. It will be his summer residence and favourite place. Sanssouci still shines in its old glory. Inside the palace there are, among other things, guest rooms, the palace kitchen, as well as the famous concert room and the living area of the "old Fritz". To the right of the entrance is the tomb of the philosopher king, who found his last rest here next to his beloved dogs. The palace itself can be visited in a guided tour with an audio guide. We recommend being there before the opening hours to get enough tickets for the desired entry time.
A visit to the palace is as much a must as a walk through the park, which is also a World Heritage Site. The Sanssouci Park in Potsdam is the largest park in Brandenburg with about 70 km of paths. Many other charming palace buildings adorn the park, including the legendary Historic Mill behind the palace, the impressive New Palace, the Chinese House, the Italian-style Orangery and Charlottenhof Palace, more beautiful and impressive than ever before.
