Dance and Politics in One - Tanztage Berlin - 2018 04.01. until 14.01.2018
Dance and politics, does that work? The answer for that question can be found if you visit the Berliner Tanztage (Dance Days).
The Dance Year in Berlin is heralded in annual tradition with the Dance Days. Young artists and choreographers from Berlin will present their new works in all rooms of the Sophiensaele. For 21 years, this event has served as a firmly integrated platform for young Berlin choreographers, as well as people simply interested in contemporary dance. As always, it will deal with the structures of our daily lives. The artists explore the value of dancing in society and try to open up a new perspective on reality. For example, everyday gestures such as hugs are integrated into the program. Political analysis also presents poetic dances in connection with visual art, mostly inspired by current political topics.

Every year, another non-European dance scene takes the spotlight. This year, five artists from Iran will present their work, including special guests such as Nargess Behrouzian, Sorour Darbi and Masoumehr Jalalieh from Tehran. Tanztage Berlin is also networking with the Young Choreographers Festival in Athens, presenting two works by Greek artists. The event program usually consists of fourteen to eighteen productions, many of them world premieres. With the feedback format "Let's Talk About Dance" you also have the opportunity to exchange views with like-minded people and get advice from the experts. So, if you have not seen enough of the dance floor on New Year’s Eve, there is now the opportunity to catch up with the dance days. Intellectual dancing with a little philosophizing, if that hits a nerve you should not miss the Dance Days.
