Jazzfest Berlin 2017 - from October 31st to November 5th!
I love jazz, and I certainly will not miss the start of the great "Jazzfest Berlin" this month. This year, the Berliner Festspiele
will once again organize this great event from October 31st. until November 5th. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious jazz events of contemporary jazz in Europe, and this year it is already celebrating its 54th anniversary! Famous jazz giants like Miles Davis and Duke Ellington have already participated. Over 150 artists and 18 jazz formations from the USA, Brazil, Norway, France, London and Berlin are expected this year. The motto is "In All Languages", which is quite true, with such a glory of musical origins participating. Some of the projects presented at the Jazzfest are designed specifically for the festival and will be unique.
The opening concert will take place this year not at the house of the Berliner Festspiele in Wilmersdorf, but at the Lido in Kreuzberg. Well-known artists such as "Heroes Are Gangleaders", Nels Cline, Dr. Lonnie Smith or the NDR Big Band will be performing during these six days in various places and entertain you with pure Jazz. As a special guest, the Jazzfestival welcomes the 83-year-old French pianist René Urtreger, who has composed film music together with Miles Davis 60 years ago in Paris. The American composer and drummer Tyshawn Sorey is the first "artist-in-residence" (sponsored by a scholarship) to perform in four formations, including the final concert with 20 musicians from Berlin.
