Brief history Red City Hall

The second world war did it´s damage also here, so the town hall had to be reconstructed again. Because of the location in the east part of Berlin, the red town hall was the place, where the GDR municipal authorities met.  On the west part of Berlin the seat of the municipal authorities was the town hall Schöneberg. From 1991 is the red town hall the united government seat.
There are several noteworthy areas in the building:
The hall of coat of arms: The hall has it´s name because of the collection of the coat of arms from all Berlin areas.
The main banquet hall: The hall is for celebrations and fests and serves today for admissions and ceremonies.

The hall of colums: The 9 meter high hall is the most beautiful hall in the red town hall.  The formal library was accommodated to a place for exhibitions and different events.
The following two Halls are located on the third floor. They are called after two post-war politicians: Louise Schröder and Ferdinand Friedensburg. The halls are used for conferences but it is also possible to rent the rooms out. In the corridors there are portrates of honorary citizens of Berlin.
The red town hall is opened from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 18 pm.
