The Globe Fountain in Berlin
The Globe Fountain (Weltkugelbrunnen) in front of the Europa-Center on the Breitscheidplatz (also affectionately called “Wasserklops" (water ball) by Berliners) is a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike.
The World Fountain: Where art, water, and Berlin come alive!
The "Wasserklops" is a carefully designed water feature, far more than a simple city fountain. Its structure may not reveal itself at first glance, but a closer look is well worth it. Bubbling jets, arched fountains, cascading steps, waterfalls, and fascinating sculptures are touched by the flowing water, revealing new details to visitors with every view.
Nearby, inviting cafés and restaurants beckon visitors to linger. The area is also a stage for street performers, including musicians, organ players, clowns, and portrait artists.
On hot summer days, the fountain becomes a refreshing haven for weary shoppers and especially for children.

Location & Sights nearby
The World Fountain is located in front of the Europa-Center on Breitscheidplatz, opposite the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and near the Berlin Zoological Garden. The Ku’damm and KaDeWe are also just a short walk away, making this an ideal starting point for exploring Berlin’s City West.
A Short History of the World Fountain
When the broad road separating the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church from the Europa-Center was closed, a complete redesign of the square became possible.
As part of the redevelopment of Breitscheidplatz, the fountain was constructed in 1983, based on designs by Joachim Schmettau and Susanne Behlert. At the time, it felt very modern and artistically ahead of its time.
In November 2013, local business owners and City Development Councilor Marc Schulte called for a redesign of the Europa-Center entrance area. During this discussion, the potential demolition of the fountain was also considered.
